On Being a Pediatric Dentist

Working with my young patients, being a positive influence in their formative years, and ensuring their early dental experiences are wonderful and why I love my work days. I educate my patients about their dental health and how to keep their mouth in great shape. The exchanges we have, and what I learn from each patient, makes for unique experiences, both technically and emotionally.

Pediatric dentistry is about science and art. It is about changing lives and starting each person on a good path so they will have healthy teeth and smiles for the rest of their life. It's why I became a dentist 25 years ago, and why I've so enjoyed working in the Cupertino community for the past 17.

When a child comes in for their first visit, and they’re scared about what’s going to happen, I spend time talking with and reassuring them. I explain everything, from how the different equipment works to the tools I use and how they’re going to feel. The more a child knows, the more comfortable they are, and they frequently start asking questions and looking at the visit as something fascinating. I love that! And when they arrive for their next visit and they’re smiling and laughing, looking forward to telling me the latest news? Then I’m thrilled!

My Education and Commitment to Continuing Education

  • Doctorate of Dental Medicine, Washington University School of Dental Medicine
  • Advanced General Dentistry Residency, Eastman Dental Center, Rochester, New York

I am a believer in lifelong learning, and that’s crucial to my profession. Pediatric dentistry is a constantly evolving field, where developments in treatment processes and new technologies are always occurring. It’s essential I remain current on these changes, so I am able to provide my patients with the level of care they deserve. By attending oral healthcare meetings and seminars, and participating in hands-on demonstrations, I stay at the leading-edge of pediatric dentistry.

Personal Life

Moving around the states many times for my education, now I call Palo Alto my home. My husband, Nick Gorgani, is a pediatric dentist in Los Altos. We have two children, who are the light of my life. When I’m not caring for my patients, I love being with my family and friends and traveling. I also enjoy staying active, whether I’m walking, skiing, kickboxing, or playing ping pong. I love food, whether I’m shopping for it or cooking it.
